HOOP-SMART

"Our program is a comprehensive five-day high level basketball instruction and math intervention event. It is designed to work on development of the whole person and includes activities that deal with character building, improving and enhancing the athletic and academic abilities of the participants."

This is our second year at California State University, Long Beach. Students stay on campus and are guests for five days and four nights with all meals and activities included. Our success in past years was phenomenal and we are looking for even greater success this year."

 It’s not just basketball…

 Our program combines learning basic basketball skills with academic tutoring and mentoring. The curriculum provides a unique opportunity for middle school boys and girls, ages 10–14 to:

• Receive daily instruction from legendary, former Long Beach Polytechnic High School coach, Ron Palmer
• Strengthen Math skills
• Strengthen language arts skills
• Receive guidance with an emphasis on higher education
  
• Receive health and nutrition education
• Develop critical thinking
• Develop an early focus on career advancement
• Work on sportsmanship
• Learn to take personal responsibility

Ron Palmer’s Hoop-Smart seamlessly weaves these principles into a fun-filled week of activities.
