Lindsey Baum, 10 years old, is missing in McCleary, WA. She started out on a short, 7 minute walk home and has not been seen since. One of our staff members and a group of writers at www.ehow.com put together a free, downloadable ebook for parents on child safety. The Hoop-Smart Child…

Is a girl or boy between the ages of 10 and 14
May or may not be the first in his or her family to have the chance to attend college
May or may not be thinking of higher education
May or may not have any "on the court" skills
May or may not be outgoing
May or may not have areas of difficulties in Mathematics or language arts
May or may not have problems areas on the social level
May or may not be at risk and need intervention
May or may not realize hidden talents in regards to basketball and in the classroom

But the end result is… each Hoop-Smart child will get the support they need to have a successful school year because of their experience in our camp.

An afternoon thought

The closer it comes to check-in the more excited we get.

Just this morning I was talking with a staff member and comparing this year with the last two years. From the moment of conceiving the idea of the camp, we agreed that staff enthusiasm has always been high. My staff is great and the ideal mix to keep this event successful. I notice the following qualities in all of them:

They have the instinct to reach out to help
The have the spirit of volunteerism
They are great with children
They have the respect of their peers and non-peers alike
They are the people other people go to in more than one venue
"Yes" is a major part of their vocabulary

They all have the ability to turn ideas into realities.

I depend on them…
